Panama Day 2

2/16/20

Working in the mobile clinic was a very incredible experience. I learned how to hold and transport dogs and cats in preparation and post surgery. I didn't realize the size differences would be so dramatic. We transported cats that were less than five pounds to dogs over 60 pounds, so we all got quite the workout. Although it was brief, I did get to see the surgery that was being performed on the dogs. It amazes me how fast the surgeons were able to perform the surgery on dogs and cats of all sizes and ages.
I felt a sort of responsibility even though I wasn't the one performing the surgery. Many of the animal's owners were watching through the openings in the walls. They would follow their dog or cat throughout each stage, and since we were the "taxis" who transported them from place to place I felt like it was my job to be extra gentle and make sure the process was as painless as possible. I'm glad to have helped so many families and animals.

I also learned not to wear white shoes in the clinic.
